Ever since the troop drawdown plan announced by Obama in December 2010 starting July 2011 and completing in December 2014, I have been mentioning that the senior military leadership of USA and other power centres with vested interests may not stick to the timetable and may extend the stay. A cold war is gong on between Obama administration and Pentagon. Gen David Petraeus disagreed with Obama’s decision to withdraw 33000 US troops from Afghanistan by October 2012 and wanted slower pullout. Pentagon, ISAF leadership, US corporations, defence, security and construction contractors, drug mafia, Karzai regime, Afghan security forces, India and Israel are desirous of extended stay. Their selfish interests clash with political ambitions of Obama’s administration and aspirations of Afghans vying for freedom.
The US Generals doesn’t want to return home disgraced and defeated as had happened in Vietnam. They are least concerned about the poor state of US economy, the continuing bloodshed, hazards faced by soldiers in the field and adverse world opinion. They are obsessed with the idea of victory in whatever shape, which they know cannot be achieved within the left over time of three years. Their heavy salaries and drug profits are added attractions to prolong their stay particularly when they reside in safe confines of overly fortified military bases.
The US and NATO generals somehow are misled with the belief that given the time and resources, the Taliban now deprived of al-Qaeda’s wholesome support would get exhausted and in not too distant future they would be forced to negotiate on American conditions. They are confident that in next 3-4 years the ANA duly backed by the US airpower and technological support would be able to take on the Taliban more effectively. Above all, they want to create a psychological impact that the US has not been defeated and have no plans to abandon Afghanistan till at least 2024. In their view this message would surely dishearten fence sitters within Taliban to jump the fence and join the ranks of moderates who have given their willingness to the US political settlement plan.
The civil contractors of USA are rolling in money and would like the war to continue for times to come. Large chunk of billions of dollars invested in Afghanistan to equip ANA and to carryout development projects are pocketed by them. The lucrative drug trade in which Afghan feudal lords, CIA and NATO are deeply involved is flourishing, has convertedAfghanistan into biggest narcotic country of the world. Part of the drug money is utilized to meet heavy war expenditures and covert war expenses. Inept, corrupt and unpopular Karzai regime cannot survive without the physical presence of ISAF and American aid. Karzai whose writ doesn’t extend beyond his palace has agreed to all the clauses of the Afghan-US strategic partnership and has conveyed his willingness to let the US military retain military bases for next ten years. He got his unpopular decision endorsed by Loya Jirga which was boycotted by Taliban Shura.
The Afghan Army and Police are not showing worthwhile signs of improvements in security duties and in discipline matters. Desertion rates as well as cases of ill-discipline are high. They are ineffective in Pashtun dominated southern and eastern Afghanistan. Belated efforts made to correct the ethnic imbalance by inducting larger number of Pashtuns in the two organizations have backfired. Kabul administration believes that recent spate of terrorist attacks in Kabul had been made possible by Pashtun soldiers and policemen.
India has got involved in Afghanistan because of its strategic and economic interests. Helped by USA, India has dug its heels firmly and is using Afghan soil to destabilize the Pakistanregions contiguous to Afghanistan through covert means. Having spent $1.5 billion in development projects in Afghanistan, India now wants to extract tens of billions in return for its initial investment by having a lion’s share in mining of all future mineral resources related projects. In order to become the most influential country in Afghanistan and to fill up the power vacuum in the aftermath of the US departure, India is directing all its energies to washout whatever little influence Pakistan has in Afghanistan.
India’s aim is to make western border of Pakistan hostile so that it could put its arch rival in a nut cracker situation by posing a twin threat in any future Indo-Pak war, or be in a position to continue launching two-directional covert war against Pakistan. Once Afghanistan is bagged by India, it will enable it to fulfill its long cherished dream of encirclingPakistan and thus keeping it perpetually in a state of quandary. Indo-Afghan strategic partnership agreement has brought India closer to the realization of its dream.
Strong foothold of India in Afghanistan will enable it to expand its economic and political influence in Central Asia. Governed by this long-term objective of gaining access to Central Asian markets, India managed to dovetail its place in Pak-Afghan trade transit agreement. This underhand deal facilitated by USA will allow Indian goods to be shipped throughPakistan’s land route via Wagah. In order to reduce land locked Afghanistan’s dependence upon Pakistan, India built a road connecting Chahbahar with Daranj in northern Afghanistan. India also coaxed Karzai to build dams over River Kabul as part of its strategy to coerce and humble Pakistan. It has already constructed dozens of dams over three rivers flowing into Pakistan from occupied Kashmir and plans to build several dozens more dams entirely in violation of Indus Water Treaty to be able to manipulate water flow in accordance with its wicked designs.
True to its reputation, Israel is silently playing the devil’s role by remaining in the background. While it is persistently stoking up fires of antagonism between ISAF and its opponents, it is also playing its part to divide Afghan Taliban and to destabilize Pakistan. Initially it successfully deflected phenomenon of suicide attacks from its homeland towards Iraq and then further shifted its expertise to Afghanistan. In Badakshan, Mossad has established a large cultural centre where Muslim suicide bombers belonging to various nationalities of the region are indoctrinated and trained. Attacks on mosques, shrines, worship places, funerals and religious scholars/clerics are mostly masterminded by Mossad to denigrate Islam and to accentuate ethnic, sectarian and religious tensions in Pakistan. Besides inflaming sectarian fire, Deobandi-Barelvi divide is also being subtly widened. Special technology in FM Radio in use by Maulana Fazlullah in Swat which couldn’t be jammed by the Army was provided by Israel. Long-range sniper rifles and Uzi sten guns were also provided by Israelto militants in Swat.
Israel is also strengthening Indian armed forces by providing latest state-of-art weapon systems and has become India’s largest arms supplier. The two countries are cooperating in the nuclear field as well. Both USA and Israel are desirous of making India a counterweight to China. In reality, this is a smokescreen to justify supply of sophisticated arms and nuclear technology to India. India knows that it is no match to China’s military and economic strength and it will be sheer folly to antagonize the sleeping giant and upcoming super power. India’s chief target is Pakistan and its frenzied force modernization program is geared towards humbling Pakistan on the battlefield. While Pakistan is being systematically weakened from within since 2002, India is being armed to teeth to deliver the decisive blow at the opportune time.
The whole thrust of Indo-US-Israeli nexus is directed against Pak Army and ISI, the two pillars which are braving extremely heavy odds doggedly and keeping the adversaries at bay. Different techniques have been applied to cow down the two institutions but all their onslaughts have been thwarted. The underlying aim of discrediting and enfeebling Army and ISI is to gain access to nuclear and missile sites.

Unilateral action will dig last nail in coffin of US military

The sole super power priding to be the strongest nation in the world with all its economic indicators in the positive was viciously hit from within by 19 Arab hijackers on fateful day of 11 September 2001. Two hijacked Jumbo aircraft struck Twin Towers in New York in quick succession. Later on, the third aircraft hit part of Pentagon building and the fourth one was shot down short of Pennsylvania. 2973 Americans died in the process. The whole American nation sank into state of shock, fear and nervous breakdown. Dignity of the strongest nation lay shattered. Once the clouds of fright dispersed, those at the helm of affairs fumed with anger and put their heads together how to wreak vengeance on the perpetrators of incomprehensible and unforgivable crime.
Zionist controlled media upped the ante to stimulate hatred against Islam and its adherents. Within hours of the tragedy, Israeli former PM Ehud Barak blamed Osama Bin Laden (OBL) and prompted American administration to invade Afghanistan. The whole world went into mourning and termed the terrorist acts as the biggest catastrophe ever happened. All officials, writers and anchors of print and electronic media of the world comity shed copious tears of sympathy over the loss of lives and trauma caused and condemned the terrorists and their patrons severely.
Based on hearsay and assumptions, OBL led al-Qaeda based in Afghanistan was nominated as the accused even before carrying out investigations and accordingly war preparations were unleashed with frenetic speed and urgency. The US took no time to build an international coalition for the crusade. In order to make the military adventure appear compelling and purposeful, George W Bush led neo-cons coined the theme of ‘war against global terrorism to make the world safe and secure’. On 28 September 2001, the UNSC passed a resolution sanctioning invasion of a sovereign country with a view to combating terrorism.
The US then bluntly demanded physical support from all those willing to be with the US in its hour of crisis instead of offering mere sympathies. Option of staying neutral was ruled out and term ‘you’re with us or against us’ brandished. Gen Musharraf declared as a pariah by USA and western world because of his military coup against a democratic government in October 1999 was put the same question on the night of 12 September by Colin Powel. He had already been briefed by the then DGISI Lt Gen Mahmud who was on a visit to Washington about the ugly mood of American leadership. He had been warned by Richard Armitage that the US would send Pakistan into Stone Age if it refused to cooperate. When Musharraf said that he was with the US, he was given seven demands which he promptly accepted. Subsequently he did bring the requirements of Washington to the notice of civil and military policy makers and all agreed with him that he had taken the right decision. It enabled US-NATO military to mount an offensive as early as 7 October 2001 which changed the complexion of world dynamics.
Bugles of war were sounded and forces of destruction let loose on a hapless and impoverished nation which had no connection with 9/11. Whole range of destructive weaponry like daisy cutters, cluster bombs, stealth bombers, cruise missiles and depleted uranium were brought into play to rain molten lava from the air. The only fault of Mullah Omar and his Shura was that they refused to hand over OBL without providing them proof of his complicity. The US couldn’t oblige since it didn’t have any and had engineered the whole drama for altogether different motives. Its ranting and raving was a put up show. It is now widely believed that 9/11 attacks were engineered by Zionists under the framework of Dragon policy, framed by Mossad and RAW in 2001 for carrying out false flag terrorism
New rules on terrorism were formulated which envisaged punishing the terrorist networks and those who harbored, supported or aided them in any form. Thin line between terrorism and freedom struggle was also washed out to benefit Israel and India. Pakistan was a target prior to 9/11 and remained so subsequently but was treacherously made to believe that it was an ally of USA. The proposal of ‘with us or against us’ was a coercive call meant to frighten the military ruler to submit to America’s plan and facilitate its invasion.
Occupation of Afghanistan and formulation of new rules on terrorism gave a godsend opportunity to India to punish its arch rival Pakistan on account of its venture in Kargil and its overall policy of defying Indian hegemony in South Asia. While the US military and NATO got busy in mopping up operation in Afghanistan, India had its own set of priorities. It was desperate to regain its influence in Afghanistan and to bash Pakistan. While the US had politely declined India’s advice that Indian military would attack Pakistan from the west in concert with US-NATO attack on Afghanistan from the north, it agreed to its suggestion to deceive Pakistan by pretending to be its close ally and then forcing it to become frontline state, severing ties with Taliban, sharing intelligence, making available its airbases, airspace, Karachi Port and land routes via Chaman and Torkham for logistic support.
Behind the ruse of helping Pakistan in fighting terrorism nabbing runaway terrorists, CIA and FBI opened outposts in selected regions of FATA and Balochistan and also gained control over immigration department on all major airports. In short time, CIA started dominating ISI in matters of intelligence acquisition since it had superior means at its disposal.
Indian leadership then tasked RAW to chalk out a comprehensive covert war plan to destabilize and emasculate Pakistan’s institutions. In concert with Israel, Dragon Policy was put to use. This highly sophisticated operation is multi-faceted cohesion between intelligence, military, media and politics aimed at fragmenting nations which pose a threat to global agenda of international Zionism.
In order to gauge the reaction capability of Pakistan armed forces after its 70,000 troops had got deployed along western border and also to take the steam out of Kashmir movement,India stage managed a terrorist attack on Indian Parliament in Delhi in December 2001. In return for defusing highly volatile situation after ten-month military standoff, the US pressured Gen Musharraf to let India fence the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir, stop infiltration across LoC, ban Jihadi groups supporting Kashmiri freedom fighters and give a written commitment that Pakistan would not allow its soil to be used for terrorism in neighboring countries or for supporting freedom struggle in occupied Kashmir.
India also decided to bring Pakistan on its knees by building dams and controlling water in three rivers of Jhelum, Chenab and Indus. It had already heavily bribed regional political parties in Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to prevent construction of Kalabagh Dam at all cost since it had the potential to meet future agricultural and energy needs of Pakistan.
In order to subvert Islamic values and to divide the society, India and USA first helped Pakistan in increasing TV channels and then penetrated chosen channels to promote liberalism, secularism and obscenity. Media was also used to spread misgivings and despondency among aggrieved segments and to then instigate dissidents and quislings to pick up arms against the state forces.
RAW didn’t find any difficulty in giving final shape to the plan to destabilize Pakistan covertly since all it had to do was to dig out old files of 1980s in which RAW in collaboration with KGB and KHAD had carried out cross border terrorism against Pakistan using Afghan soil for a decade. KGB’s file on Baloch insurgency in 1970s was also consulted to revive old contacts among Marris and Mengals. RAW teamed up with CIA, Mossad, MI-6 and its own creation RAAM to carryout similar operations in FATA and Balochistan since all had common objectives. CIA facilitated entry of RAW agents in Pakistan and over the years the two agencies established an extensive network all over Pakistan.
Concurrently, Indian military planners started rehashing war plans and speeding up force modernization program. Latest state-of-art weaponry was purchased from advanced countries for all the services and missile and nuclear capabilities were upgraded. Israel not only became the biggest arms supplier of India but also helped India in up-gradation of its nuclear and missile programs and in fighting freedom fighters in Kashmir.
To reciprocate Musharraf’s generosity in defusing Kashmir movement, India agreed to ceasefire along the LoC in Kashmir and signed peace treaty with Pakistan. This was yet another ruse to make Pakistan lower its guards. Once the momentum of freedom struggle waned, Indian planners then began to give final shape to new doctrine of Cold Start which was Pakistanspecific and accordingly trained its mechanized battle groups supported by mechanized artillery and air force. Tactical nuclear weapons were manufactured to support independent battle groups. Indian Navy was geared to affect a naval blockade in Arabian Sea at an opportune time.
While India got down in real earnest to prepare its armed forces for the fourth round, Pakistan Army was pushed into the inferno of war on terror in which it was pitched against own people in FATA and Balochistan. In order to keep it embroiled irreversibly, all the five aligned intelligence agencies started funding, training, equipping and launching terrorists fromAfghanistan. TTP in FATA, TNSM in Swat-Malakand and BLA-BRA-BLF in Balochistan are foreign supported militias. Members of these outfits belonging to tribal areas are among the best fighters in Pakistan. These assets were bribed and turned into anti-state elements. Drones were also introduced by CIA to further stir up terrorism. Flames of terrorism initially lit inSouth Waziristan and interior Balochistan were gradually spread inwards towards other parts of Pakistan. Foreign hands keep pouring kerosene on embers of terrorism. Consequent to sustained psychological war, Pakistan has been charge sheeted with multiple crimes without providing shred of evidence to substantiate allegations.
Resultantly, Pakistan today is a scene of violence, death and destruction. Whereas Pakistan has suffered the most in US dictated war on terror and is the biggest victim of terrorism, the sponsor of the war instead of sympathizing has declared that Pakistan is the most dangerous country in the world and nursery of terrorism. According to Adm. Mike Mullen, Pakistan is exporter of terrorism and aligned with Haqqani network based in Miranshah, a bustling town of North Waziristan (NW) and epicenter of economic activity. ISI has been directly accused that it had a hand in recent attacks in Kabul. A case has been cleverly built up on the pattern of endgame of Vietnam War in which story of safe havens was played up and Cambodia made a scapegoat to cover up US military’s failure.
The US leaders embarrassed from series of debacles in recent weeks are trying to make Pakistan a sacrificial lamb in order to hide US military’s failures. They are trying to enact 9/11 like situation and have given an ultimatum to Pakistan that it is either with the US or with the Haqqani network. Obama, Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, Mike Mullen, Petraeus and Panetta who are firing threatening salvos should be realistic and try to understand that the American public as well as the world today is no more ignorant and will not get duped by psychological war again and again. They should know that neither the military and economic situation of USA is as strong as was in 2001, nor Pakistan is under a military dictator who could take decisions on behalf of the nation unilaterally. Rather, the US has become economically impoverished because of global economic meltdown and US excessive defence spending, and militarily weak and timid owing to the beatings it is receiving at the hands of Taliban in Afghanistan. Moreover, after the US lies about WMDs in Iraq were exposed, who would believe its Haqqani network story?
Judging from the barrage of accusations and threatening posture, it can be assumed that the US has finally decided to stick out its neck into North Waziristan where the neck choppers are impatiently waiting. If the US Special Forces opt for another unilateral action, it will undoubtedly add to the woes of Pak security forces, but repercussions of the venture would be unbearable for USA since it would amount to digging the last nail in the coffin of adventurers in Afghanistan. Any hostile act by US forces would greatly help in unifying the otherwise divisive nation.
For a change PM Gilani and FM Hina Rabbani are giving bold and sensible statements and are not showing any signs of weakness. A call for an All Parties Conference has been given by Gilani to solicit support of all political forces. Religious parties and groups are getting restive and have expressed their resolve to stand behind armed forces in case of US physical intervention. As opposed to juvenility displayed by US military leaders, Gen Kayani remained cool, calm and collected and gave measured and sensible statements. Consequent to last Corps Commanders Conference, the Army has readied its response actions in anticipation to all possible options the US could exercise with or without India and has expressed its full determination to face the challenge squarely.
Even the militant groups currently fighting Pak security forces in all probability would turn their gun barrels outwards, as they had done in 2009 when Indian forces were rearing to attack. In short, every Pakistani is firmly of the view that the US is unreliable, double-dealer and a cheat. They agree with Gilani that America and not Pakistan should do more since Pakistan has sacrificed a lot to help USA but the US instead of being grateful is leaving no stone unturned to degrade Pakistan. They say with one voice that enough is enough and it is high time thatPakistan should distance itself from fair-weather friend and get rid of deceptive US aid tied to harsh conditions. They say that time has come to throw away the crutches provided by unpredictable USA and that Pakistan should learn to stand on its own feet. They also suggest that our policy makers should takeout its eggs from the US basket and shift them into the basket of China who has proved by its deeds to be trustworthy and an all-weather friend. We should also strengthen our backyard by developing very intimate relations with Iran which is in the firing line of USA.

Gen Ashfaq Pervez Kayani is under criticism for not taking action against the most corrupt and inefficient political government bent upon destroying the country. His critics have gone to the extent of saying that lollypop of 3-year extension has silenced him. It must not be forgotten that whenever the Army general stepped in, the overall situation was always chaotic and people were fed up of politicians. Opposition parties kept nudging GHQ to save the country from ruination. Each time a man on horseback took over the reins of power; he was hailed as a savior. Happy tidings of the military rule, however, never lasted for more than 2-3 years after which the tide got rough and once again people clamored for return of democracy. This see-saw is still going on but the Army seems to have learnt its lesson this time.

It is an established fact that as long as the military ruled the country singly it produced excellent results. Seized by a desire to gain legitimacy and to become democratic, the moment it brought in discarded and disgruntled politicians and made them run the facade of democracy, things went haywire. The deadly military-civilian combine always ended up in tarnishing the reputation of Army and the death of military rule. All military rulers irrespective of their good performance left the scene as discredited rulers. Fate of democratic leaders was no less pathetic. This cycle has gone on since 1958 and so far military has ruled the country four times totaling about 33 years. Making a dispassionate comparison, even the worst critics of Army would grudgingly agree that Army rulers had at least kept things in order. They were surely superior in governance and management and had taken GDP to 7% as against 2-3% GDP and rampant chaos during civilian rules.

It was wishfully hoped that after the fall of Gen Musharraf and takeover by the coalition government of PPP-PML-N tied to charter of democracy, the established practice of seeking a change for the sake of change would end. However, after seeing the true face of Zardari-Gilani led democratic regime, the people are once again vying for a change and are looking towards the Army since it is not within the capacity of another political party to bring a healthy a change. People who had celebrated the ouster of hated Gen Musharraf are now often heard saying that his rule was much better than the current democratic rule which is an insult to democracy. Notwithstanding their wish, Gen Kayani and his team of Generals also know that their infatuation towards the Army would be temporary. Within six months the dice would get loaded against he Army and all the ills placed at its doorsteps. This genuine apprehension is keeping Gen Kayani restrained.

Apart from few disgruntled superceded officers, all ranks have full faith in leadership of Gen Kayani who has done a lot for the welfare of lower ranks and is devoting lot of attention towards development works in FATA and Balochistan to win their hearts and minds. He monitors the ongoing war on terror from the front and the credit for turning the tide in favor of Army goes to him. Not only he has kept the Army away from civil affairs, he has shown respect to the elected government and has shunned all surreptitious moves made by self-seeking groups to derail democracy since he wants the people and political forces to decide what is good for them and the country.

Besides self-centered groups inside Pakistan desiring the Army to show door to the PPP government, outside powers are equally interested. It is now an established fact that US-UK combine brokered peace between Gen Musharraf and Benazir, got infamous NRO issued and paved the way for most corrupt, and thoroughly incompetent regime to rule the roost. The rulers are serving US agenda and are least pushed about Pakistan’s national interests and whether it survives or breaks up into quasi states as is again being drummed up by foreign media. The ruling class and their rich companions have amassed so much ill-gotten wealth that they can live lord’s life abroad. That is why they are least concerned about dismal politico-economic situation, America’s bellicosity and its dangerous designs against Pakistan, India’s military buildup and its efforts to dry up Pakistan by building over 62 dams on rivers doesn’t bother them.

Notwithstanding their subservience to Washington’s diktats, it has become disconcerting for the US to find all-powerful President Zardari unable to fulfill its core objectives because of military’s obstruction. It is upsetting for USA to find that when its darling Musharraf was at the helm of affairs and was performing in accordance with its wishes, he didn’t have a strong political government to support him to meddle into sensitive issues. Now that a popularly elected government is in power, Gen Kayani is not prepared to play the game. It would have been ideal for USA if Gen Kayani and Lt Gen Pasha were on the same page. In utter confusion, the US assaults the government and Army in rotation and at times simultaneously.

In desperation, Indo-US-Israeli nexus is now trying to create conditions for military takeover since with reins of power in the hands of Army it becomes that much easier for them to foment agitation and force the military to use force against protestors and thus prepare grounds to exploit human rights violations and subsequently justify war to dismember Pakistan. None will come to the rescue ofPakistan under military rule or shed tears on its dismemberment. Ongoing media war portraying the democratic government in poor light and egging on the military to step in is governed by this hidden motive.

Given the deteriorating state of affairs of the country when everything is in shambles, takeover by the Army will certainly be welcomed but the euphoria will subside all too soon and Kayani will be scoffed at. It will give justification to the ousted regime to project itself as a victim. Same old music will be played that the Army never allows democracy to flourish and axes it when it starts maturing. All the sins of politicians will be forgotten and the entire blame put on the Army in accordance with the past practice. Kayani is neither ambitious nor he has shown any inclination to overstep his authority vested in him. Even when he is showing deference to the civil government and is carrying out the instructions of the president and chief executive dutifully, the Army is still criticized for being domineering. This perception has been built by the cynics in the backdrop of Kayani taking up a principled stand on certain matters and showing the grimmer side of the picture.

He had prevailed upon PM Gilani to rescind his order of placing ISI under Ministry of Interior in August 2008 which if implemented would have been catastrophic. He had advised the top leadership not to send DGISI to New Delhi in the aftermath of 26/11 when India was in a highly belligerent mood. He had explained the gravity of the situation in the backdrop of cavalcade of long march in March 2009 which had reached Gujranwala and had advised the President that it will be in fitness of things if judges were restored and governor rule in Punjab terminated. His sane advice was heeded to and crisis averted.

He did express his deep reservations over certain clauses of Kerry Lugar Bill (KLB) which impinged upon security of Pakistan. Basic purpose of KLB was to wash away misgivings and grievances ofPakistan against USA and to build trust and promote better understanding between two countries. It was to act as a harbinger for sustainable Pak-US relations. It backfired and bred more suspicion and resentment since it was widely perceived as an instrument with which USA planned to deprive us of our dignity and sovereignty.

The bill was based on the presumption that Pakistan was guilty of terrorism, nuclear proliferation and that continuation of aid money would be dependent upon its performance. Pakistan was directed to stop nuclear proliferation and procurement of fissile material; cease support to terrorists and stop cross border terrorism and to allow drone attacks in Quetta. KLB sought direct access to all Pak nationals associated with nuclear proliferation or acquisition of nuclear materials for our nuclear program. Civil government was asked to exercise tight control over military budgets as well as on chain of command including promotions and appointments of senior officers. Expansion of US Embassy in Islamabad and facilitation of large number of CIA agents disguised as coordinators and project managers into Pakistan were dovetailed in KLB package.

It is an open secret that our Ambassador in Washington Hussein Haqqani was instrumental in adding certain anti-Army clauses since he carried a grudge against the Army. He is widely seen more as a spokesman for US than of Pakistan. All PPP leaders were distressed when objections were raised and repeatedly said that there was nothing wrong in the bill. Genuine reservations expressed by Kayani were taken personally by President to Washington and as a result an explanatory note was attached with the bill. This attachment was an admittance that original document was harmful but was gladly accepted by Haqqani and former foreign minister Qureshi.

Gen Kayani has been advising the government not to cede to the pressure of USA to launch a major operation in North Waziristan since the timings for opening another front was not in Army’s favor. It was owing to his stand since early 2010 that this operation has so far not been launched. The Army and ISI had no role in the release of Raymond Davis in March 2011, yet Lt Gen Pasha is wrongly blamed. His only role was to extract maximum amount from USA for the families of murdered persons and to impose restrictions on CIA activities. From that time onwards and particularly after Abbottabad incident, these two institutions have been tirelessly working to emasculate CIA network in Pakistan. Gratuitous Stoppage of $800 million close support fund was meant to break the resistance of Army. The Army once again showed its mettle by declaring that it will continue fighting war on terror without the US aid as it had been doing in the past.

This kind of resistance put up by the Army against USA is unprecedented particularly when power is in the hands of most powerful civilian president duly remote controlled from Washington. Series of cockeyed allegations made against Gen Kayani and Lt Gen Pasha in particular and the institutions in general and media war by foreign and local media is the direct outcome of this resistance. While the Army and ISI have become eyesores for India, Israel and USA, ironically the US cannot make further headway in Afghanistan without their intimate support and hence cannot afford to get de-linked.

While the officers and men of Army are shedding their blood to safeguard the motherland, the politicians having sold their souls are bartering away national interests. Karachi, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA are bleeding, but our rulers are more concerned about power play. They least care about our sovereignty getting bruised and Pakistan getting neo-colonized as long as Uncle Sam promises more aid and cash flows in. This contrast has been there right from inception of Pakistan.

Soldiers perform their tasks with total dedication, devotion and patriotism and do not hesitate sacrificing their lives if the situation so demands, be it internal or external threat or manmade or natural catastrophes. Such a stance is not possible if moral fiber is weak. Honor, integrity, esprit de corps, values and discipline rank high in their personal lives. These traits are drilled into their minds in PMA and regimental centers and later on further honed in regiments and training institutions. Inbuilt accountability system takes care of all cases of indiscipline, sidelining all those who show lack of morals, camaraderie, professionalism, valor and leadership qualities. Only the best rise to higher ranks.

In contrast, the politicians enter corridors of power without any grooming from an academy. Family background and wealth becomes the basis for their election. They work with fervor only when their self interest is at stake, otherwise they adopt a lackadaisical posture and are least interested in national interests. Whatever patriotic slogans they raise are meant to befool the gullible public. They loot rather than protect national kitty. Morality, values and principles are of no consequence to them. They believe in the principle of making hay as long as the sun shines. Let the people judge the worth of politicians themselves and throw them out rather than the Army performing this act and getting blamed. Those who are instigating and provoking Kayani to takeover are not his well-wishers.

Notwithstanding that the higher judiciary and Khakis stand on high moral ground in obtaining contaminated environment where evil is promoted and virtue undermined, the only crib the people have against the two institutions is that they are not asserting their authority to put fear of God in the hearts of immoral rulers, making them set things right and pressuring them to agree to bring back ill-gotten wealth stashed in Swiss banks. Huge heaps of Pakistani wealth deposited abroad if invested in own banks can address all our problems of dependence, joblessness, poverty, extremism, ethnicity and sectarianism and make Pakistan healthy and wealthy. Prosperity will automatically reduce radicalism in the society and will promote peace and harmony.

If the judiciary and Army fail to take stock of the fast dwindling situation and assert moral pressure on the government to mend its ways, they will be held equally responsible if Pakistan becomes a failed state and collapses from within because of incompetence, poor governance and widespread corruption.

Islamabad—“Change Our World” – the message of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon for World Youth Day (Aug 12), is more than a theme; it is an idea to inspire young people at all times. The theme rightly befits the young Pakistani men and women who comprise of more than 60 per cent of the total population and aspire to make a difference with their selfless contribution in the development of their society. From raising awareness and managing organizations to setting up blood banks and running schools; the youngsters, against all odds, are proving their abilities.

Mobisher Rabbani, is one of the icons of Pakistan’s patriotic youth who is making every effort to promote Pakistan’s foreign policy, tourism, and culture through quiet diplomacy and using social media tools.

He is the founder of ‘The Rabbani Foundation’, a philanthropic organization dedicated to humanity which has successfully carried out projects in UAE, Sri Lanka, Palestine, Philippines, Bangladesh & Pakistan.

Pakistan’s prized possession - youth - has been unfortunate to receive due attention of the government as many young people lack the education, freedom and opportunities they deserve. Yet, despite these restraints, young people are gathering in huge numbers to build a better future.

The situation of Baluchistan may seem grim, but Naseem Khan Achakzai, along with his friends is working on a project to educate street and needy children of Baluchistan who have been denied of their basic right to learn. “It is an effort to turn young shimmery buds into beautiful flowers, whose fragrance will enlighten our future generations and make us all proud” said Naseem, the founder of Juvenile Dignitaries.

Another energetic youngster is Amaan Tareen who believes that “this is the time when Youth of Pakistan can play a key role, just as it played in the making of Pakistan when they became the torch bearers of spreading the message of Quaid i Azam’s to every city and village.” Amaan and his team have been working on a research since 4 years to disclose facts not known to the people of Pakistan.
