ISLAMABAD - Memogate scandal has been perhaps the most violent and maddening scenes of late 2011 and early 2012. But at its conclusion, we wait for an even more interesting turn of events yet to be seen; the quite climax.

The spectacular display of balancing factor in Pakistan, the army has defended the country from foreign invaders and terrorists to the best of its abilities and has proven to be the most well organized and coordinated institution of Pakistan. But when the lid was blown off the memogate conspiracy against the army in the memo written to Adm. Mike Mullen of the United States Armed Forces, the army summoned its power after a long time to get resignation of Hussain Haqqani and to close the chapter. Nawaz Sharif sensing political mileage, four days before lapse of his self announced seven day deadline, had the matter in the courts hoping for early elections.

However, the Peoples Party led government of Pakistan had yet another card to play: a closing deal with the army to put the memo case behind and make it seem like a thing of the past. The army accepted the closed doors proposition, but the effects of this scandal may work in favor of the country as the government has made preparations to quit with a graceful exit as early as late August or early September of 2012.

PML-N also played its role brilliantly as a third party petitioner to have this scandal investigated but at the suggestions of some power circles has kept its desires out of the way of any further proceedings in the matter.

The court realizing the deal has also decided not to pursue the case seriously. But, instead, out of the blue opened a decade old Mehran Bank Case with similar plaintiffs and defendants not necessarily in the same order. However, if any substantial evidence is provided by Mr. Mansoor Ejaz in the court, then that could mean a violent end to a five year long despotic regime. The main issue has now turned into a political one as the PPP and other parties in power in Pakistan feel that their vote bank is being emptied at the whim of a blossoming politician and chair of the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaaf (PTI) Imran Khan. The government sensing its troubles decided to not to wait too long for elections and tried to have them as early as possible as to not to hurt their vote bank, but it may be too late, as most of the people in Pakistan who are from other vote banks now see PTI as their personal favorite.

The following is the reply of DG ISI in the Supreme Court of Pakistan in Memogate case. We could only confirm this from one source and therefore shall not be taken as final until made public by Supreme court or original source.

DG ISI

Respectfully submitted;

1. Respondent No 7 has not received any petition till now. However, in compliance with the orders of the Honorable Court dated 1.12.2011 reply is submitted herein:

2. Media Wing of ISI brought to my notice the piece published in the Financial Times on the 10th of October. It was written by Mr Mansoor Ejaz. The writer had, in this article, criticised the ISI's role and suggested some actions against the Organization. This was usual anti ISI rhetoric.

3. But I did find the opening paragraph of this piece quite unusual and damaging. It mentioned that a senior Pakistani official had been attempting to pass on a message to senior US leaders indicating imminence of a military takeover in Pakistan. The whole thing looked intriguing. I concluded that no one could write such a piece so blatantly unless he had some evidence to support his assertions. I, therefore, tasked my sources to know about Mr Mansoor Ijaz and find out if he would agree to share the information about the purported Memorandum.

4. It was confirmed to me by my sources that Mr Mansoor ijaz was ready to share the information but only with the Director General and also not in Pakistan. He insisted that the meeting shall be without any aides on both sides. Accordingly, a meeting was thus planned and took place in London on 22nd of October 2011.

5. Mr Mansoor Ijaz briefed me that our Ambassador in Washington had gotten in touch with him and remained in communication about the contents and delivery of the Memo to the relevant US authorities. He also showed me the proof of a large number of messages sent through BlackBerry which had been exchanged between our Ambassador in Washington and him regarding the document, which later came to be known as the Memorandum. He explained to me in fair amount of details about the circumstances leading to the drafting of Memo and why it was delivered through him. I told him, that I could not believe him unless I saw his BlackBerry and Computer myself to form an opinion that the messages were really exchanged between the two individuals. Having seen these means of communication used, I was satisfied that he had enough corroborative material to prove his version of the incident. He insisted that he will present the details of the evidence himself before a commission or court of law, if asked to do so.

6. I left London the next evening and reported my findings verbally to the Chief of Army Staff on 24th October 2011.

7. I met the Honorable President of Pakistan on 18th of November 2011 when this matter also came under discussion and I briefed him on what, according to my assessment, the facts were. I also suggested to him the issue pertained to National Security and should not be taken lightly. I suggested to the President that it will be in the fitness of things to ask our Ambassador in Washington to verify or contradict the matter.

8. The Respondent has the honor to lead ISI, an organization that stands in forefront, particularly during the peace time, to safeguard the security of the Country as well as the honor and respect of its people. Men and women under command of the Respondent continue to risk their lives and those of their children to positively contribute to the overall security calculus of the Country. All our efforts are geared towards that end.

9. The Respondent, in his humble personal capacity, maintains that access to unadulterated truth and justice is a right of the people of Pakistan, the real sovereign masters of this Country. To this end, Honorable Court may, if deemed appropriate, graciously consider the following:-

a. May kindly summon Mr Mansoor Ijaz to appear before the Honourable Court as he alone holds the real evidence, as claimed by him. He has already, at a number of occasions, indicated his willingness to do so, through the print and electronic media.

b. May kindly demand forensic examination of the computers and all the cell phones and Black Berry Telephones used since May 2011 till date by the both, Mr Mansoor Ijaz and our Ex Ambassador to the US.

c. May kindly consider retrieval of the Call Record Data related to this incident from the Black Berry as well as other service providers, if any.

10. Under the circumstances, the answering Respondent shall comply with all the directions given by this Honorable Court in the matter and render necessary assistance to its appointed commission whenever so required.

The sources also mentioned that President will be back in the country in next two to three days. However, we were told that President’s address to the Joint Parliament session may be postponed.

A Pakistan First Research Institute Exclusive.

Islamabad -- The Memogate scandal has shaken the foundations of the government in Pakistan. With recent petitions filed in the Supreme Court of Pakistan by various political personalities the scandal has taken a major turn. If President Asif Ali Zardari is found linked to this scandal he can lose his Presidency. It is worth mentioning here that according to the law of Pakistan, President Zardari will not be able to take part in politics of Pakistan for two years after quitting presidency. This can become major hit to Pakistan People’s Party’s politics since their current chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, a 23 year old, has joined practical politics in last few weeks; apparently leaving ruling party without a leader. According to the sources close to Presidency, in case of such scenario President’s sister will take over the party until Bilawal is ‘ready’.

The institute’s sources provided it with certain alleged evidences regarding Memogate scandal. This includedBBM messages between Hussain Haqqani and Mansoor Ijaz picture of Blackberry device with the alleged conversations on them between Hussain Haqqani and Mansoor Ijaz, the two main characters of Memogate. The picture is shared here for our readers. We would like to make it clear that we did not forensically confirm if this picture is fake or not. Therefore it is presented as is. The timing of the conversations as provided by Mansoor Ijaz are found be correct as seen in the picture. Our sources mentioned that details are also confirmed by data provided by “Research In Motion”, company that runs Blackberry service.

It was also learnt from studying the information gained by our research institute that some other personalities including Haqqani’s wife Farah Naz Isphani might also be involved in this issue. The known facts related to Haqqani’s third wife mentioned in the alleged conversation and her ‘friends’ needs to be assessed closely. Before becoming the Member of National Assembly of Pakistan she was in key position in Voice of America. A tool used by American administration to convey their message to Pakistani public through media.

According to Brig (R) Simon Sharaf, a defense analyst, Isfahani was reportedly in the team of Mr. Selig Harrison moderator for Carnegie Endowment for Peace – based in Washington. Carnegie wields a significant influence in the United States Congress.  Mr. Harrison is reputed to be a strong anti Pakistan lobbyist. The duo is also responsible along with Zalmy Khalilzad – an Afghani born American and Shirin Tahir Kheli a Pakistani born American, for playing a key role in the rise of Maj Gen Mehmood Durrani of Balusa Group having similar woven nature as Mr. Haqqani. It is a known public fact that Gen Durrani and Hussain Haqqani were part of Balusa Group. It is worth noting that Balusa Group also enlists General Satish Nambiar, Raja Mohan, Bharat Bhushan and a former RAW official as its members.

From our analysis we understand here that Mr. Haqqani was not alone in this act. When contacted Mr. Haqqani claimed that the given picture is fake and did not comment further. Other PPP sources did not entertain our request for comments on the issue.

It is again reminded that we do not take a stand on the issue as it is pending in Supreme Court of Pakistan or if the picture is fake or not. This information, as learned, is provided, as is, in public and national interest of the country.

**UPDATE: Mansoor Ijaz has released the same picture in Newsweek Magazine and claims that it is not fake.

A Phenomenon called Imran Khan

Is this the beginning of a revolution?

Seventy one years ago, on March 23rd, 1940, our forefathers gathered at the Minto Park to stamp their own destiny on the pages of history. A destiny that demanded to be etched with their blood and countless sacrifices. But, they remained steadfast, faced the challenges head-on and achieved the unachievable for us.

Today when the nation has been hurled into an abyss by the current “democratic leaders”, Imran Khan and his Tehrikis decided to defy all odds and rally at the same location where our forefathers once rendezvoused to lay the foundation for Tameer e Pakistan. But this time the mission was to lay the foundations to reclaim our lost self respect, take the nation out of despair and decline to yield to a rotten corrupt feudal system.

Before Oct 30th, most of the top-notch analysts were questioning if he can pull it off, skepticism from all political clouts about the success of the rally was at its hilarious peak, Punjab Government was treating it like a laughing stock and last but not least Federal Government was busy in it’s usual merrymaking.

Then came the Historic Day of Oct 30th and stunned the entire world, not just Pakistan.

They came on buses, cars, bicycles, trucks, tractors and if they could not find a transport they came on the foot. The ones who did not have feet came on crutches. The ones who could not uses crutches came on the wheel chairs. Those who could not use either of the two came on the shoulders of their loved ones. The inspirational vibrancy and the unflinching determination were spine-tingling.

It was not just the mood in Minto Park that was surreal. People who could not come to the venue were glued to their television screens, the ones who were not watching had their ears plugged to the radio channels, the ones who only had access to the internet flooded the web sites where History in making was being streamed live and those who did not have access to any media related gadgets called their homes only to put the home telephone in front of the TV so that they can listen on their phone as the event unfolds in Minto Park.

He revived the word “hope” in their minds, taught them the courage, stoked the fire of energy, stirred their passion, infused the resilience and changed the dimension of Pakistani Politics from every possible angle for the times to come. It felt as if the mood of March 23, 1940 at Minto Park was reborn and suddenly, he became the rip roaring Phenomenon.  A Phenomenon which I have decided to call, “Imran Khan”.

Yes indeed, Imran Khan and You, the workers, the Tehrikis deserve the full credit for shocking the world to the core. You are now the wow factor!!! You are now contagious and yes, you did turn the tables. Yes, you have finally fractured the decayed political system of this country. Yes, you are now what I call “the third force”. You are no more a myth, you are the reality. Therefore, welcome!!....welcome to the politics of the real world but the party has just started and the hard work is yet to be done.

What will stamp success of the Tehriki Movement are the specifics that you need to unfold now on how to fix the countless problems faced by the country.  How you plan to alleviate poverty. What is your economic model. How the deficit will be turned into surplus. What educational and health reforms you plan to bring. How will you improve the infrastructure of the country. How joblessness will be spun into job opportunities. What will you do different that the current election system will bring the best at the helm of affairs. How will you curb nepotism. How the speedy justice will be served at the lowest levels and not just by the Supreme Court. How the delimitation of provinces will happen.

Everything said above has a true indication of a revolution in making.

The romance, the idealism, the sincerity indeed has the reminiscent of 1940’s era but how can this revolt be turned into a successful revolution is the question that every Tehriki and its leadership need to ask themselves.

But for the opponents, do not take Oct 30th show as a onetime fluke by a cricket rock star. In fact you are quickly running out of options if you do not decide to fix your crooked political doctrine.
