The Rector of National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) on Monday presented a number of proposals for strengthening Pakistan-China cooperation in various avenues, including the realm of education with China’s prestigious Tsinghua University.
Addressing a day-long China-Pakistan Cooperation Conference in Beijing, the President of NUST, Muhammad Asghar proposed initiating joint degree, Masters and Phd courses.
The Conference was hosted by Tsinghua University International Center for Communication, Tsinghua University Pakistan Centre for Culture and Communication Studies, Pakistan’s Embassy in China, China’s Yunnan International Cultural Exchange Centre and was addressed by Ambassador Masood Khan, prominent scholars and think tanks from both the sides proposing various new avenues for further deepening existing cooperative relations in different spheres.
Asghar said that courses in this connection could be identified with the consent of both sides.
He also proposed setting up of a joint institute with the cooperation of Tsinghua University that focuses on energy, natural resources, infrastructure development, etc.
He also said that there is urgent need for setting up a China Study Centre in Pakistan comprising think tanks.
He said that Tsinghua University has a wonderful Science and Technology Park and NUST wants to replicate it in its main campus in Islamabad.
“We hope to get positive response in this regard from our great friends - China,” he said adding that the two countries had a very important role to play and “let us join hands to make it a reality”.
Ambassador Masood Khan, speaking on the occasion, thanked President Gu Binglin and Vice President Xie Weihe of Tsinghua University, Professor Li Xiguang Executive Dean, Department of Communication and Journalism, for organizing the Conference which comprehensively covered the most important dimensions of Pak-China relations.
Khan said that he recognized Professor Li’s untiring efforts, as the head of Tsinghua-Pakistan Culture and Communication Centre, to promote Pakistan-China friendship.
